    The 160 year old path from Marine Parade to the old Napier Prison/lighthouse site and Hukarere Girls College

    The historical integrity of the Napier Lighthouse site is at a critical juncture. The original 1874 hexagonal foundations still lie beneath the swimming pool of the neighboring property. This land, formerly managed by the Department of Corrections, now holds a residence that encroaches upon this significant archaeological site. We believe that by acquiring and removing this structure, we can secure the future of the Napier Prison and restore this landmark to its rightful state, if the dome and optic lens has indeed been recovered. That obviously is the more expensive option. back-view
